Laure El Chamy est Professeur associé à la Faculté des sciences de l’Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth et la coordinatrice du Master en « Génomique et Protéomique Fonctionnelles ». Elle est titulaire d’un doctorat en « Biologie moléculaire et Cellulaire » de l’Université de Strasbourg. Au cours de sa formation doctorale au sein du Laboratoire « Modèles Insectes d’Immunité Innée », elle a développé une expertise dans l'étude génétique de l'immunité innée utilisant le modèle Drosophila melanogaster.Ses intérêts de recherche se concentrent sur la caractérisation des interactions hôtes- pathogènes, avec un intérêt particulier pour les bactéries du groupe Bacillus cereus. Elle est également impliquée dans l'identification des espèces par la méthode du DNA barcoding, dans le cadre d'une stratégie visant à surveiller et préserver la biodiversité. Elle a reçu plusieurs prix et distinctions, dont le financement du programme International « L’Oréal- UNSECO pour les femmes et la science 2013. En 2014, elle a été nommée au programme “Women in science hall of Fame” de l’ambassade des Etats- Unis à Beyrouth puis au programme « International Visitor Leadership Program- IVLP 2015» pour participer au projet « Women in Sciences Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields ».
