Call for Papers: Who’s behind the wheels? Legal dimensions of liability in autonomous vehicles in the UAE

A Call for Papers has been organized during the first semester of the Academic Year 2025-2026 by the School of Law of Saint Joseph University Dubai, in collaboration with Lexis Nexis. The initiative addresses a topic at the intersection of law and innovation, namely: Who’s behind the wheels? Legal dimensions of liability in autonomous vehicles in the UAE.

In this Call for Papers, the School of Law of Saint Joseph University Dubai invited submissions exploring the rapid development of autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles and the complex legal questions they raise. As human control is reduced or eliminated, traditional legal concepts – such as fault, negligence, and duty of care - are fundamentally challenged.

Determining who bears responsibility – manufacturers, software developers, owners, insurers or regulators – has become a pressing issue for lawmakers, practitioners and scholars alike.
