For the past 40 years, Antoinette Beyrouthy has led a distinguished career as a clinical physiotherapist. She is regarded as one of the leading physiotherapist experts in pre post-natal classes, in fasciatherapy and lymphatic drainage and in diagnosing and treating’ posture’ problems, incontinence and in orthopedic &neurological injuries. She is well-known for her Commitment to Physiotherapy quality care and to ensuring best practices based on international standards. She is currently the consult of Physiotherapy department at the Lebanese American University Medical Center –Rizk Hospital, in Beirut, after being the head of the department for 40 years ago where she is actively involved in treating patients, as well as in training and educating the nursing staff and the new employees in ergonomics and handling patients in a safe manner. Antoinette Beyrouthy has graduated from the school of physiotherapy at the Mgr. Cortbawi Institute in to 1979.She earned her bachelors equivalence in physiotherapy in 2000 from the Lebanese University.She then completed a Master’s Degree in Manual Therapy and Osteopathy at the St Joseph University in July 2006. In 2016, she completes a Doctorate degree, with honors, from St Joseph University institute of physiotherapy. She has also received a Continuing Education Certification from St Joseph University and from the Order of Physiotherapist in Lebanon. Dr. Beyrouthy is a firm believer in continuous learning and in keeping updated on the latest in best practices, research and physiotherapy treatment techniques. In 1984, she completed a certification in Postural Reeducation to treat scoliosis patients in France. In 1985 she earned a diploma in Prenatal Classes from the International Permanent University of Manual Therapy in France. In 1994, Dr. Beyrouthy has attended classes in ‘Cardiac Rehabilitation’ in Broussais Hospital with Professor Philippe Sellier and ‘Chest Physical Therapy’ for post open-heart patients in Marie Lannelongue Hospital. She started her career as a clinical Physiotherapist at the Cortbawi Rehabilitation Hospital in Daroun Harissa, before joining AUBMC in 1980, where she worked for four years. She was offered the opportunity to train in the USA at The Institute of Graduate Health Sciences in ‘Basics Mobilization & detailed evaluation of extremity dysfunction’ , as well as at MGH Newport Continuing Education in Massachusetts in ‘Extremity Joint Dysfunction’, ‘Improving Cardiopulmonary Endurance in the general rehabilitation patient’ and in ‘chest Physical therapy’ in ICU. She moved to the Rizk hospital in 1984 as Head of the Physiotherapy Department. From 1991 to 1993, Dr. Beyrouthy has served as the Secretary of the Scientific Affairs in the Executive Board of the Order Of Physiotherapists in Lebanon, which she has helped founding and is still an active member till present. Dr. Beyrouthy has also been actively involved in teaching as she held a teaching position in neurological physiotherapy (hemiplegia) and in specific physiotherapy techniques at the Lebanese University and at St Joseph University. From 2009 till 2015, she has given lectures to DU students at the Dental Faculty of St Joseph University. Dr. Beyrouthy has been a model of dedication to her job, patients and to the team. She has relentlessly worked towards developing her department and her team by broadening the scope of services offered, upgrading the equipment, empowering staff, and fostering effective communication within the team. The Physiotherapy department at Rizk hospital was the first to introduce aqua-gym classes with a built-in pool and to have a gym center to promote the prevention treatment. It was also the first to treat urinary and anal incontinence by biofeedback. She continuously works towards ensuring a clean, safe and positive work environment for patients and staff (Systematic Infection Control of water in pool). She always ensures high quality training and professional development opportunities to the team of physical therapists to support their lifelong learning needs, promoting their professional growth and career advancement, and maintaining their clinical competence in a rapidly changing healthcare environment Encouraged and supported by LAUMC-RH, the members of her staff all pursued their professional development and succeeded in completing their master's degrees in physiotherapy in various specializations. She believes that team work is essential and that trust, respect and transparency are a must for team success. Dr. Beyrouthy was honored by the Order of Physiotherapist in Lebanon at Beirut for her successful career in physiotherapy, teaching and practicing. In 2004 she has received a reward from JCD against Drugs in recognition for her contribution in helping them. In 2015, Dr. Beyrouthy received the Distinguished Award from LAUMC-RH in recognition of her professional achievements for over 30 years.
