Associate Professor Nie Haiyan comes from Harbin, China, a city renowned for its standard Mandarin pronunciation. She holds a Master’s Degree in English Language and Literature from Northeast Forestry University. With more than nine years of experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, she has developed extensive expertise in Chinese language education. Since 2015, she has worked as a state-sponsored Chinese teacher at the Lebanese University for six years, where she taught a wide range of courses for Chinese language majors and received high recognition from both university leaders and students.

In September 2023, Nie Haiyan joined the Confucius Institute at Saint Joseph University . She teaches learners of all ages and proficiency levels, ranging from students at primary school and university to elderly Chinese enthusiasts. She consistently tutors students for HSK exams and helps outstanding applicants secure scholarships to pursue further study in China. Every year, her students win the first or second prize in the Lebanese Division of the Chinese Bridge Competition for University Students, earning free trips to China to take part in or watch the national finals.

Nie Haiyan believes Lebanese people have a natural talent for language learning, as most locals speak at least three languages: Arabic, French and English, which makes it easier for them to learn Chinese. Teaching Chinese in Lebanon brings her immense joy and a strong sense of achievement. She deeply cherishes her teaching experience in Lebanon. Her students are curious, open-minded and eager to explore new cultures. She is grateful for their warmth and hospitality. In lively class discussions, she often draws connections between Chinese and Lebanese traditions to enrich learning experiences.
