Quality Assurance Unit (UAQ)

Quality is a constitutive element of the Jesuit tradition and one of the core Values of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) which evoke the “Magis,” an imperative to always do more and to surpass oneself. The University’s Vision is to continue to be the benchmark of excellence in academic education, through efforts to develop a culture of quality as both a national and an international requirement.

By joining the Bologna Process in 2003, USJ adopted its orientations, which are strongly linked to the concept of quality.

In 2009, AERES recommended the creation of an entity responsible for quality assurance. In response to this recommendation, the Rector appointed a Delegate for Quality Assurance and University Pedagogy, who reports directly to him, and set up an operational steering team. A roadmap was drafted and validated by the University Board in October 2015, marking the official and institutional launch of the quality assurance process.

In March 2019, USJ received unconditional international institutional accreditation from the European agency ACQUIN. Of major importance for higher education institutions, this accreditation strengthens USJ's national, regional, and international positioning.

In 2021, the Quality Assurance Unit (UAQ) was created (Executive Board meeting number 235 dated 09/11/2021 and University Board meeting number 212 dated 22/02/2022) to develop and manage the University's quality management system and provide support to institutions in implementing their quality processes.
