The ASTER Foundation, an affiliate of ASTER Hospitals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, recently visited Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) and donated a mobile clinic to Hôtel-Dieu de France (HDF), the university’s medical center. The donation was part of the USJ Alumni Association - Dubai Chapter’s ongoing efforts to address healthcare needs in the region.
On February 28, 2023, Mr. Nassib Nasr, Director General of HDF, welcomed at a dinner, a delegation from the ASTER Foundation, which included Dr. George Davis and Mr. Jaleel PA. The event was attended by USJ Rector, Prof. Salim Daccache s.j, Mr. Raphael Klat, Honorary President of the USJ Alumni Association – Dubai, Mr. Elie Yared, President of the USJ Alumni Association – Dubai, Dr. Christian Makary, President of the USJ Alumni Federation, and Mrs. Cynthia-Maria Ghobril Andrea, Director of Fondation USJ.
On March 1, a memorandum of understanding was signed to formalize the donation of the mobile clinic, in the presence of the President of the HDF medical council, which was followed by a visit, on March 2, to the USJ Faculty of Medicine (FM) and its Simulation Center on the Medical Sciences Campus (CSM) on Damascus Street. Mrs. Ghobril Andrea, Prof. Roland Tomb, Vice Dean, Dr. Elie Nemr, and the Director of the Simulation Center, Dr. Khalil Jabbour were present during the visit.
On March 3, the delegation met with several USJ officials, including Prof. Carla Eddé, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Dolla Sarkis, Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Rima Sassine Kazan, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and President of the Order of Nurses of Lebanon, Prof. Marianne Abi Fadel, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Michèle Kosremelli Asmar, Director of the Higher Institute of Public Health, Fr. Jad Chebli, Director of USJ Campus Ministry, Dr. Ursula El Hage, Director of the Career and Placement Office, Prof. Fadi El Hage, Delegate of the Rector for Professional Development, and Mrs. Ghobril Andrea.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the MIM Museum and the laboratories of the Technology and Health Park, which are located on Damascus Road at the Innovation and Sports Campus.
The visit ended with a lunch, at the invitation of the Rector and in the presence of USJ and HDF officials, at l’Atelier, the training restaurant of the Institute of Business Administration (IGE) hospitality management students.
