Mental Health Policy, Law, and Human Rights

This module is where you will have a comprehensive review of why mental health policy and legislation are so important to improve the mental health of the population. You will discuss in detail the different steps that should be taken in the process leading to the development and implementation of mental health policy, plans and legislation. A special attention will be dedicated to the contributions that the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other international treaties have given to a new understanding of mental health and human rights. Finally, we will discuss the gaps and challenges in the Lebanese legislation and practices, we will review the measures that are needed to improve mental health legislation and promote human rights of persons with mental disorders in Lebanon, and we will present and discuss the Quality Rights tool kit and how it should be used in Lebanon.
