Sustainable Process Design of Brewer’s Spent Grain Bioconversion: A Focus on Pretreatment, Process Simulation and Life Cycle Assessment

Description :

This PhD research focuses on the sustainable valorization of brewers’ spent grain (BSG), the main by-product of the brewing industry, through its conversion into bioethanol using advanced thermomechanical and chemical pretreatment techniques. The study combines experimental characterization, pretreatment optimization, enzymatic and fermentation processes, process simulation using Aspen software, and integrated sustainability assessment including life cycle and techno-economic analyses. The project aims to develop an industrially scalable and environmentally sustainable bioconversion that supports circular economy strategies and renewable fuel production from agro-industrial waste.
