From dreaming of hosting a Model United Nations (MUN) conference at USJ to participating in international conferences, the MUN club has achieved incredible milestones in little time, becoming one of our university’s biggest clubs.
Since its foundation in 2023, USJ MUN has thoroughly perfected its vision under its current President, Kris Attié, and a team of dedicated board members by offering detailed training sessions at multiple campuses from Saida to Zahle to Tripoli, alongside a final conference attracting hundreds of participants in Beirut. The key values behind it are accessibility and enjoyment.
The popular belief that this program is best suited for teenagers who have an interest in pursuing social and human sciences studies is a misconception. USJ MUN is a program designed for both school and university students. It is, without a doubt, a highly awaited experience as the tackled topics vary widely, including politics, economics, health, the environment, and more.
For many, MUN has become a passionate hobby and a comforting escape, rather than a simple academic task to fulfill. This global phenomenon is a way to gather and connect people with similar interests. The USJ MUN club takes great pride in having participated in international conferences abroad in Doha and London.
The success of this project will help standardize and spread its values within USJ and amongst other MUN programs in Lebanon. Major reforms are required to make such initiatives more efficient and impactful. The seat the club holds on the University’s Student Council is a testament to its dedication and commitment to this mission.
Far from being a one-time experience, MUN sneaks into our daily routine until its power, which resides in understanding critical thinking and constructive conflict, determines our beliefs and opinions.
