Strengthening Health Research Capacity in Lebanese Healthcare Institutions in a Permacrisis Setting

Strengthening research capacity is essential for sustaining research activities and advancing scientific knowledge. However, fragile and conflict-affected settings face considerable challenges in developing and maintaining this capacity, which limits their ability to transform health systems into sustainable structures that contribute to both global and local knowledge generation. Lebanon's ongoing permacrisis has further hindered efforts to build research capacity within the healthcare sector. Moreover, little is known about the existing infrastructure for health research in Lebanon, as well as the facilitators and barriers to its development. This study aims to map the current available infrastructure for strengthening health research capacity in the Lebanese healthcare institutions, explore the facilitators and barriers, and plan strategies to develop and strengthen health research capacity in Lebanon amidst the current permacrisis setting.
