Determinants of Suicide in Adolescents: An Examination of the Data from the Global School Health Surveys, Lebanon
Description :
Adolescence is a critical development stage characterized by profound biological, psychological, and social transitions. During this period, exposure to environmental and developmental stressors can significantly increase adolescents’ vulnerability to mental health issues, including suicidal ideation. In Lebanon, a country experiencing persistent geopolitical instability, economic collapse and public health crisis, recent data from the Global School-based student Health Survey (GSHS) revealed concerning levels of suicide attempts and ideation among adolescents aged 13 to 17, surpassing figures reported in 2017. This study will employ a quantitative research design utilizing secondary data from the 2024 GSHS to examine the determinants of suicidal behaviors among Lebanese adolescents. The study seeks to identify key correlates and patterns associated with suicide to provide the basis for evidence-based interventions for suicide in Lebanese schools
