Lebanese Rehabilitation Practitioners’ Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Artificial Intelligence: A Cross-Sectional Study
Description :
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming healthcare by enhancing clinical decision-making, improving assessment accuracy, and supporting personalized interventions. While its integration is expanding across medical and rehabilitation fields globally, the extent to which AI is understood and adopted in the Arab region particularly in Lebanon remains largely undocumented. This lack of evidence limits the development of context-appropriate strategies for preparing clinicians to work effectively with emerging AI-based tools. Addressing this gap, the present study investigates Lebanese rehabilitation professionals’ knowledge, attitudes, and readiness to incorporate AI into clinical practice. This cross-sectional study uses an online survey distributed to occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, psychomotor therapists, and psychologists practicing in Lebanon. The survey explores four key domains: (1) demographic and professional characteristics, (2) exposure to technology and AI, (3) attitudes and perceptions regarding the benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations associated with AI in clinical practice, and (4) educational needs and preferred learning formats. Open-ended items are included to capture additional insights regarding expectations, concerns, and perceived future directions. Participation is voluntary and anonymous, and all procedures comply with international ethical guidelines for minimal-risk human research. By generating the first baseline data on AI awareness and perceptions among rehabilitation practitioners in Lebanon, this study aims to inform national and institutional strategies for AI integration. The findings will help identify knowledge gaps, guide continuing professional development initiatives, and support the development of responsible and effective implementation frameworks. Ultimately, the study contributes to advancing digital transformation in rehabilitation practice within Lebanon and the wider
