This course introduces students to the field of Data Science and its role in contemporary society, organizations and decision-making. It presents the main concepts of data, the data science workflow, common types of data, and real-world applications in areas such as business, health, finance, sports, marketing, transportation and digital services. Students are introduced to the tools and skills used by data scientists, including data collection, preparation, visualization, interpretation and communication of results. The course also provides a first overview of artificial intelligence, machine learning, ethical issues, privacy and responsible data use. Through simple case studies and introductory activities, students develop an initial understanding of the data science profession and the structure of the Bachelor program.
