salem El Kharrat was born in Mrouj, Lebanon, in 1977. He studied chemistry and obtained a DEUG in 1998 at the Lebanese University in Fanar. He then continued his higher education at the University of Montpellier-2 in France, where he obtained a bachelor's, a master's and then a doctorate in biomolecular organic chemistry in 2006 under the supervision of Doctors Philippe Laurent and Hubert Blancou, with whom he then pursued postdoctoral research until 2010. He currently holds the position of associate professor of chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) in Lebanon. In 2014, he founded the “Laboratory of Research in Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry” dedicated to the discovery, through efficient and original syntheses, of new heterocyclic fluorinated organic compounds of interest in medicinal chemistry. The multidisciplinary program conducted in the “Laboratory of Research in Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry” is carried out in collaboration with the Max Mousseron Biomolecules Institute in Montpellier, France (IBMM, UMR 5247), a research institute affiliated with the CNRS, the University of Montpellier and the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier.
