Joumana Sader is a clinical nurse and educator with a Master’s degree in Nursing from Université Laval, Québec, an Advanced Diploma in Community Health from Antonine University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Lebanese University. Her academic and professional background has enabled her to develop strong expertise in community health, disease prevention, health education, and professional training. With more than two decades of professional experience in Lebanon and Canada, Joumana Sader has worked in diverse healthcare and community settings, including cardiology, pediatrics and neonatology, community health, healthcare management, and clinical education. This multidisciplinary experience has enabled her to approach health issues from individual, community, and population perspectives. Her experience at Caritas Lebanon, where she served as a director and nurse in a community-based medical and social center, represents an important part of her community health background. In this role, she contributed to the planning and organization of health-related activities and participated in awareness campaigns and health education sessions for community members and students in schools. Alongside her clinical career, Joumana Sader has developed extensive experience in teaching, training, and mentoring. She has contributed to the education of nursing students, organized and supervised clinical placements, and supported newly recruited healthcare professionals. These experiences have strengthened her ability to facilitate learning, support students, and promote critical thinking and professional reasoning. Within the context of her teaching project at Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), Joumana Sader aims to bring her expertise in community health, prevention, and education to the training of Agricultural Engineering students. Her objective is to provide students with an understanding of public health and epidemiology that is relevant to their future professional field. At USJ, public health and epidemiology can be approached from an interdisciplinary perspective, connecting agriculture, food, the environment, and population health. This approach enables future agricultural engineers to understand that population health is not determined solely by healthcare services, but is also influenced by environmental conditions, agricultural production practices, food quality and safety, dietary patterns, and broader determinants of health. Her teaching approach aims to help USJ students develop the ability to identify population health problems, analyze their determinants, understand and interpret epidemiological data, and consider appropriate prevention strategies. Epidemiology is therefore presented as an analytical tool that helps students understand relationships between environmental and dietary factors and health outcomes. Particular emphasis is placed on the relationship between agricultural production, food, and disease prevention, enabling future agricultural engineers to consider the potential health implications of agricultural and food-related practices. Through practical situations and case studies, students can be encouraged to analyze epidemiological data and explore interventions that may contribute to disease prevention and health promotion. Her teaching philosophy is grounded in practical experience and emphasizes case-based learning, analysis of real-life situations, interpretation of health data, and the application of scientific knowledge to professional challenges. This approach aims to make public health and epidemiology meaningful and directly relevant to students whose future professional activities will lie at the intersection of agriculture, food, environment, and society. Through her contribution to the academic environment of Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Joumana Sader seeks to support an interdisciplinary educational approach in which future agricultural engineers recognize population health as an important dimension of professional decision-making and practice. Her combined clinical, community health, and educational experience provides a strong foundation for delivering evidence-informed, practical, and prevention-oriented teaching in public health and epidemiology, with particular attention to contemporary issues at the intersection of agriculture, food, environment, and population health.
