Nazek El-Khoury is a doctor of clinical psychology and psychopathology, a psychotherapist and university professor, with more than thirty-five years of clinical, academic, and scientific experience in Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates. Holder of a PhD in clinical psychology and psychopathology obtained in 1995 at Saint Joseph University of Beirut with the distinction 'Very Honorable,' she also has a solid academic background in French literature (bachelor's and master's), reflecting a multidisciplinary intellectual path. Her initial and continuing training was enriched by numerous specializations in psychotherapy, notably in analytic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychoanalytic psychodrama, interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), child psychology, and general psychiatry, acquired in Lebanon and France. Professionally, Dr. El-Khoury held major clinical positions in university hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and NGOs, working with children, adolescents, and adults, in individual, family, and group consultation. For nearly 27 years she was head of the psychotherapy unit at the Sacre-Coeur Hospital (Hazmieh, Lebanon) and a consulting psychologist in several hospital institutions, including the Notre-Dame de Secours University Hospital Center (Byblos). She has also worked continuously in private practice since 1990. Since 2022, she has practiced as a Senior Clinical Psychologist at the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology in Abu Dhabi, where she is licensed by the Department of Health (DOH). She is also a clinical psychologist accredited by the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Alongside her clinical practice, Dr. El-Khoury has pursued a remarkable academic career. She has been a tenured professor of psychology at the Lebanese University since 1995 and held the position of head of the psychology department (section II). She also taught for many years at Saint Joseph University of Beirut and the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, notably at the faculty of medicine. Her academic activities include teaching, supervising dissertations and theses, clinical supervision, and organizing seminars and specialized trainings. Her research focuses mainly on the psychopathology of depression, addictive behaviors, the impact of traumatic and war events, the psychopathology of children with chronic illnesses (diabetes), and perinatal depression. She has participated in numerous international and regional conferences and presented scientific communications in Europe, the Middle East, and the Arab world. Dr. El-Khoury is also the author of numerous scientific publications (articles, book chapters, conference proceedings, abstracts), published in recognized medical and psychological journals in French, English, and Arabic. Several of her works have contributed to a better understanding of the link between external stress, sociopolitical context, depression, and addiction in the Lebanese population. Engaged at the institutional level, she was a member of the legal committee for psychology at the Lebanese Ministry of Health and a member of the psychology colloquia commission at the Ministry of Education.
