Houwayda Matta Bou Ramia has been a professor at the Lebanese School of Social Work (ELFS) at Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) since 2004. She holds a master's degree in social work from the University of Ottawa and a doctorate in social work from the University of Montreal. She coordinates the doctoral program in social work and holds the Research Chair on Forced Displacement in the Middle East, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).Her research focuses on the identity of social work, family education in situations of child abuse, policies and practices related to drug addiction, irregular maritime migration from Northern Lebanon, the intercultural competencies of social workers, and intercommunity tensions in Lebanon between displaced persons and host communities.Prof. Matta has published numerous works and serves as a scientific consultant for various research projects and strategic initiatives with NGOs on a variety of social issues in Lebanon, particularly those concerning minorities and vulnerable groups.
