Carla Khater is a leading international expert in ecosystem management, restoration ecology, and biodiversity conservation, with more than 22 years of distinguished experience in this field. As research director at CNRS-Lebanon, she has established herself as a leading authority with an impressive H-index of 17, gathering more than 1,100 citations across more than 60 peer-reviewed publications. ACADEMIC TRAINING AND LEADERSHIP: Doctorate in restoration ecology from the University of Montpellier II; HDR (Accreditation to Direct Research) in Socio-Ecology from Aix-Marseille III University; currently international scientific coordinator of ECO_MED France; coordinator of the O-LIFE/Neo LIFE international environmental observatory. PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE: has led around 70 international projects covering the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe; specialized in environmental impact studies, land management, and the rehabilitation of degraded landscapes; expert in protected-area management and quarry rehabilitation; develops national environmental strategies, notably to combat desertification in Saudi Arabia; integrates scientific methodologies with practical conservation solutions. RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC IMPACT: publishes numerous articles in prestigious journals such as Quaternary Science Reviews, Conservation Science and Practice, and Restoration Ecology; trilingual fluency in English, French, and Arabic; excellence in managing multicultural projects; expertise in capacity building and nature-based solutions; specialized knowledge of Mediterranean, arid, and semi-arid ecosystems; strong track record of collaboration with NGOs, ministries, universities, and the private sector.
