Amal Farhat (Lebanon) is the Director of AFEL and a senior Child Protection (CP) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) case management advisor with ABAAD. She is also an Assistant Professor at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), where she teaches courses related to social intervention, child protection, and gender-based violence. With over two decades of professional experience, Amal is recognized for her expertise in GBV and child protection, with a strong focus on survivor-centered approaches, case management systems, and safeguarding frameworks. Her work bridges field practice, policy development, and academic research, contributing to the strengthening of protection systems in Lebanon and the broader Middle East. Amal has led and contributed to the development of specialized tools, operational manuals, training curricula, and standard operating procedures for professionals working with survivors of violence, including social workers, healthcare providers, educators, and justice actors. She has authored and co-authored numerous studies, articles, training kits, and community education materials addressing GBV, child sexual abuse, and family violence, with particular attention to culturally sensitive and context-specific responses. Through her leadership roles, Amal has been actively involved in designing and implementing protection programs, capacity-building initiatives, and institutional strengthening processes for national and international organizations. Her work emphasizes prevention, early detection, ethical case management, and the integration of mental health and psychosocial support within protection services. Amal’s contributions reflect a sustained commitment to advancing child protection and gender equality through evidence-based practice, professional standards, and long-term system building across Lebanon and the MENA region.
