ATF and USJ Host Symposium on the 14th Arab Report on Cultural Development
The Arab Thought Foundation (ATF), in collaboration with Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), will present its 14th Arab Report on Cultural Development, Arab Food and Water Security: Accumulating Crises and Promising Initiatives, on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Raymond and Aïda Najjar Auditorium on USJ’s Medical Sciences Campus, Damascus Road, Beirut. The event will feature policymakers, academics, experts, and representatives of regional and international organizations working on food and water security.
As part of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness of food and water security and deepen dialogue on the development challenges facing the Arab world, ATF is building on the report’s official launch, held in October 2026 at the League of Arab States’ headquarters in Cairo in cooperation with the League.
The report examines the interconnected challenges of food and water security, two essential pillars of sustainable development in the Arab world, amid evolving regional and global geopolitical dynamics and increasing environmental and economic pressures. It identifies structural challenges in natural resource management and the region’s ability to meet its food needs, while highlighting promising initiatives and best practices that could inform practical solutions and strengthen resilience to future crises.
Discussions will address the report’s key findings and the policies and approaches needed to achieve more sustainable food and water security. Particular attention will be given to the role of knowledge, scientific research, and technology in tackling current challenges. The event will also underscore the importance of cooperation between universities and research institutions in advancing knowledge, raising awareness of development challenges, and shaping a shared vision for a more resilient and sustainable future for the Arab world.
