Professor Walid Ammar is the Director of the Doctorate and Research Program in Public Health at Saint Joseph University (USJ) and the former Director General of the Ministry of Public Health (1993–2020). He served as a member of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) from 2012 to 2015 and currently chairs the Independent Oversight and Advisory Committee (IOAC) for WHO.He has published two books and over 200 peer-reviewed articles (h-index 61). Professor Ammar has been honored as an Officer in the French National Order of Merit and in the Belgian Order of the Crown.
