Professor Afif holds a PhD in atmospheric chemistry and physics from Paris XII Val-de-Marne University, France, and Saint-Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), Lebanon. In addition, he holds a Habilitation à Dirigée des Recherches from Paris-Est Créteil University, France. He is an international expert in the field of atmospheric sciences, with over 20 years of experience. He is a professor at the Faculty of Sciences of Saint-Joseph University (USJ) in Lebanon and at the Climate Atmosphere Research Centre of the Cyprus Institute in Cyprus. He leads the research group “Emissions, Measurements and Modelling of the Atmosphere” (EMMA) at USJ. In addition, as a specialist in analytical chemistry, he also holds the position of Technical Director of the Analysis and Research Centre at USJ and is the Director of the Department of Chemistry.His research and consulting projects span several continents (USA, Canada, Europe, Central Asia, but also South Asia). He conducts his activities with renowned research institutes and universities, but also for organizations such as the World Bank, the United Nations (UNRWA, UNDP, UNIDO), the EU, etc. These projects focus on air pollution and climate change. Professor Afif is an expert with the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and has participated in the realization of emission inventories as well as studies of the contribution of pollution sources to air pollution and air quality modeling, national and regional strategies and policies, as well as the design of monitoring networks, and the reduction of industrial emissions/thermal power plants and road transport. Professor Charbel Afif is the author of more than 60 scientific articles, more than 90 conference communications and has contributed to three books.
