Rima Sassine Kazan has been Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at Saint Joseph University of Beirut since 2013. She was elected President of the Order of Nurses of Lebanon in 2021. Starting in September 2024, she will also be responsible for the PhD Program of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences.Professor Kazan obtained her Doctorate from the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at the University of Montreal in Canada. She has held numerous leadership positions within the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at Saint Joseph University of Beirut and elsewhere. She is a member of several councils within USJ and serves on various boards of directors of CHU de l’Hôtel Dieu de France affiliated with USJ and the USJ-HDF network at Saint Joseph University of Beirut. In May 2024, she led the Faculty to recently receive accreditation for the Faculty of Nursing Sciences and its Bachelor’s program in Nursing Sciences from ACESI (Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing).Her research focuses on nursing leadership, the psychological and social environment of nurses and the image of the nurse, advanced nursing practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the evaluation of nursing education programs based on a competency approach.She collaborates with various specialties and evaluates nursing education programs in Lebanon and Africa. She also teaches critical analysis of research, nursing leadership, qualitative research methods, and nursing theory, and manages research within the Faculty. Since 2013, Professor Kazan has participated in several advisory projects managed and funded by the World Health Organization in Djibouti, Rabat, and Côte d'Ivoire as part of the “Evaluation of Nursing Education Programs.”She has published numerous articles and has chaired many scientific conferences and symposiums on multiple occasions. She is a member of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at Saint Joseph University of Beirut (since 1988) and a representative of the Order of Nurses of Lebanon on the International Council of Nurses (ICN). She is also a member of the Council of the International Secretariat of Nurses of the Francophone Space (SIDIIEF) in Montreal, Canada.Professor Kazan has received numerous awards, the most recent being an honorary medal from the Lebanese President of the Republic in her capacity as President of the Order of Nurses of Lebanon.
