University of Bologna's Technology Keeps Interpreter Training Alive in Times of War

A remarkable collaboration between the Department of Interpreting and Translation (DIT) at the University of Bologna and the ETIB’s Interpretation Department demonstrates how solidarity and technology can safeguard education even in the most difficult circumstances.

ETIB interpreting students were granted access to ReBooth, an innovative remote interpreting platform developed at the University of Bologna. Created during the pandemic lockdown by IT specialist Gabriele Carioli, with the contribution of Prof. Nicoletta Spinolo, ReBooth replicates the interpreter's booth in a digital environment, enabling simultaneous and consecutive interpreting training to continue remotely. 

When access to classrooms became impossible because of war, this initiative ensured the continuity of interpreter education and became a tangible gesture of solidarity. 

ETIB expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Professor Mariachiara Russo and IT specialist Gabriele Carioli for their commitment, expertise, and constant support in making the platform available and ensuring its effective use.

The initiative has attracted significant media attention in Italy, highlighting how technology, when devoted exclusively to peaceful purposes, can build bridges across borders and help students pursue their studies despite conflict.
