IPHY Strengthens the Clinical Reasoning Skills of Physiotherapists

 

The Institute of Physiotherapy (IPHY) organized a specialized training session on Clinical reasoning in physiotherapy" on May 23, 2026, led by Dr. Pierre Filfili and bringing together nearly 200 participants from all Lebanese universities offering physiotherapy programs. This activity is part of ongoing efforts aiming to strengthen the academic and professional skills of practicing physiotherapists. 

The training created a platform for exchanging experiences and sharing good practices between different academic institutions. Participants had the opportunity to explore the fundamental concepts of clinical reasoning as well as its role in therapeutic decision-making and improving the quality of care. This meeting also focused on the methods of teaching and evaluating clinical reasoning.

The strong participation reflects the growing interest in this essential skill in physiotherapy practice. The main topics covered during the training included:

  • Definitions, types and models of clinical reasoning in physiotherapy, clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis, clinical reasoning and communication.

  • Conceptual map of clinical reasoning, anamnesis, evaluation (specific tests), ICF, rehabilitation, and finally reassessment, not to mention essential skills and common mistakes to avoid.

  • Teaching and evaluation of clinical reasoning, ethics of clinical reasoning, artificial intelligence in clinical reasoning.
