Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) proudly congratulates Mr. Gilbert Ghostine, alumnus of the USJ Business School (FGM), member of the USJ Board of Trustees and of the Board of Directors of Fondation USJ, on being awarded the Légion d’honneur on May 26, 2026, the highest official French distinction, in recognition of his career and professional achievements.

A Lebanese-Canadian businessman of international renown, Gilbert Ghostine has held senior positions in major international companies, establishing himself as one of the most influential Lebanese figures in the fields of management and industry. His career is also distinguished by a constant commitment to innovation, education and the transmission of knowledge.

The award ceremony was held in the presence of several personalities from USJ, including Professor François Boëdec, SJ, Rector of the University, His Excellency Mr. Joe Saddi, Minister of Energy and Water and President of the USJ Board of Trustees, Mr. Samir Assaf, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fondation USJ and member of the Board of Trustees, Ms. Raya Raphaël, member of the Board of Trustees, and Ms. Zaza Jabre, member of the Board of Directors of Fondation USJ.

The ceremony was also marked by a moment of emotion and symbolism. On this occasion, the Grand Chancellor of the Légion d’honneur, himself a Jesuit, met again Professor Boëdec with whom he had shared school benches. Their warm exchange reflected the Jesuit values also evoked during the ceremony, highlighting the deep ties uniting educational commitment, humanism and a spirit of service.

Founded in 1802, the Légion d’honneur distinguishes personalities who have made an exceptional contribution in several fields. Through this distinction, it is a path of excellence, leadership and international commitment that is praised, as well as a constant loyalty to human and educational values.
