Role of the CER

Founded to ensure ethical compliance in academic research, the USJ Research Ethics Committee (CER) reviews studies conducted by USJ instructors-researchers and students. It also addresses broader ethical questions arising from advances in science.

The Committee gives particular attention to:

• Human subject research

  Projects involving direct interaction with participants, where personal data or responses influence research outcomes.

• Use of data and biobanks

  The creation, use, or reuse of databases or biological material collected from individuals for research purposes.

• Environmental interventions

  Any project involving the study of the environment, as well as interventions or modifications that may affect human participants.

• Humanities and social sciences

  Studies examining behavioral, cognitive, or social dimensions of human participants.

• Animal research

  Protocols involving sentient animals, conducted in line with recognized ethical standards.

• Fundamental research
