Enseignant Profile

Elie Yazbek is the director at the Doctoral school for human and social sciences (EDSHS) at Saint-Joseph University of Beirut, Lebanon. He was director of the « Institute of theatrical, audiovisual and cinematographic studies» (IESAV) in the same university from 2011 till 2020.
He is a professor and teaches multiple courses (directing, film theory…). He also directs seminars in Finland, France, Greece and is a guidance counselor at the Institut des métiers du cinéma (ISMA) in Benin, one the leading audiovisual institutes in Africa, where he teaches since 2011.

He published essays, « Regards sur le cinéma libanais » and « Montage et idéologie dans le cinéma américain contemporain», edited several collective books, the last of them « Religion and Science Fiction » and « Creer apres la catastrophe », have several articles in Lebanese and international journals (Canada, France, Brazil, Spain, Finland…) and two plays (« Orage d’été » and « Les autres enfants de Dieu »).

He is also a documentary filmmaker (“From Shade to light, The Pierre Abou Khater Story”, “Searching for Fouad Abi Abdallah”, “Silwan”. “Lebanese war never happened…).
