Nayla Tamraz is a professor of literature and art history at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, where she was also director of the Department of French Literature from 2008 to 2017. In 2010, she launched the master's and doctoral program in art criticism and curatorial Studies that she currently directs. She is also a visiting professor at the universities of Paris 3 and Paris 1. Her practice as an art critic and curator has led her to write for various monthlies and dailies, to preface exhibitions and to curate numerous exhibitions including “Poetics, Politics, Places” at the Museum of Fine Arts of Tucuman, as part of Bienalsur, the international biennial of contemporary art of South America (Argentina, 2017), the exhibition “Le Secret” at the Ygrec art space (Paris, 2017), “Habiter les interstices” at the Michel Journiac gallery (Paris, 2022), the video program “Ways of Vanishing” at the Sursock Museum (Beirut, 2023) and, more recently, “journal of Times I Journal of Present Times” at the Abroyan factory (Beirut, 2024). Her academic publications generally focus on the comparative theories and aesthetics of literature and art as well as their historical context, which has led him to take an interest in questions of history, memory and narrative, the topos of ruin, representations linked to the notion of territory and, more generally, the links between poetics and politics, in the literary and artistic practices of post-war Lebanon.
