Ghazi Ghaith is Professor of TEFL in the Education Department of the American University of Beirut. He has a Ph.D. in Literacy, Culture, and Language Education from Indiana University, an M.S. in International and Comparative Education from the same university, and an M.A. in English Literature from Drew University. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses and conducts regular in-service training and professional development workshops. His professional interests include curriculum development and material writing and his research focuses on the determinants of reading comprehension and the applications of cooperative learning in language teaching and teacher education. Dr. Ghaith chaired the AUB Education Department for six consecutive years, directed the University Preparatory Program for three years, and served on numerous committees at the departmental, faculty, and university levels. He also served on the Executive Board of Directors of the International Association for the Study of Cooperation in Education (IASCE), won its service and activism award, and was instrumental in introducing cooperative learning as an instructional framework in several schools and educational settings. Dr. Ghaith’s publications appeared in numerous education and applied linguistics journals and are cited extensively.
