Prof. Richard G. Maroun obtained a Master degree in Microbiology-Virology at University Paris VII and Pasteur Institute in Paris, France in 1995. He achieved his PhD in 1998 on the discovery of anti-HIV molecules and earned a PhD diploma from University Paris VII. After a one-year post doc in France, he returned to Lebanon in 1999 and was in charge of Biochemistry and Virology courses in different local universities. In 2001 he was recruited as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences (FS) of Saint-Joseph University of Beirut (USJ). In 2004 he obtained an Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches (HDR) diploma in Sciences from University Paris VII. In 2010 he was promoted to a full Professor position. In 2014, he completed a food safety training and obtained a certificate in Advanced course in HACCP from Campden BRI Institute in Great Britain. Since his recruitment at USJ, he was in charge of several administrative positions. In July 2015 he was elected Dean of FS. Pr. Maroun is currently the Head of the research team “Characterization of Bioactive Molecules” at FS. He published more than 110 scientific articles in international journals and more than 50 papers in international conferences, as well as several book chapters and patents. Since 2011 he is sworn expert in epidemiology and microbiology in Lebanese courts.
