Fondation USJ / Message from the Rector

«WE EDUCATE AND TEACH FOR EXCELLENCE, PARTNER WITH US.»

Prof. Salim Daccache SJ, Rector of USJ and President of Fondation USJ

Recteur Fondation USJ, launched in 2015, serves as an independent fundraising entity dedicated to supporting students experiencing financial hardships. Additionally, it provides support for the University’s developmental initiatives and addresses the needs of its affiliated University Medical Center.

An institution like USJ, with its rich history and commitment to non-profit public service as outlined in its Charter, should rely on its community of Alumni and friends to carry out its mission. The present booklet serves as an introduction to the mission, objectives, projects, programs, and governance of Fondation USJ.

The funds collected by Fondation USJ are entirely allocated to scholarships and directed towards institutions, as the Saint Joseph University of Beirut covers all administrative expenses, including those of its affiliated university medical center, Hôtel-Dieu de France. The University relies solely on itself and its donors for support. While the Foundation is responsible for distributing the funds it receives, it is committed to transparency and philanthropic principles, ensuring that donors are informed about how their contributions are utilized. A governance committee, comprising external auditors, assists Fondation USJ in developing its strategy and ensuring the integrity of its activities. Additionally, a Fundraising Steering Committee guides the team in effectively targeting its objectives.

While fundraising may be rooted in Anglophone and American cultures and isn’t traditionally a focus of Francophone universities, generosity and solidarity transcend specific colors or religions. Now, more than ever, a Francophone and international institution like USJ relies on your support to maintain its position as a beacon of excellence for the nation.

As I write these words, the sense of being at the heart of the ordeal prevails; I’d even say we’re experiencing a time of tragedy. However, it’s not devoid of hope or light. Our aim is to offer optimal care to our patients, help the youth in staying and thriving in their country. With your support, we hope to remain masters of our own destiny. Thank you for your testimony and friendship. Your contribution is invaluable to us. Gratitude is an integral part of our humanistic and spiritual culture.
