Threshold evaluation of the perception of the canine substitution in treating agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors by orthodontists, dentists, and laypeople: an eye-tracking study.
Description :
Images of a smile (unilateral and bilateral agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor) with space closure and canine substitution are modified. The parameters are: - Size of the canine (width and height of the canine). - Color of the canine. For each parameter, a series of 5 images is created with a control image and an increment of 1 mm of the canine substituted (increase in the size: width and height of the canine) to find out what are the limits to substitute the lateral by the canine. In addition, the color of the canine will be modified. An area of interest is delimited on each image (the parameter in question) to be able to output the oculometric data specific to this area. This data is used to determine the threshold of perceptibility of each defect. To be able to detect which parameter is more perceptible, combinations of dental and gingival defects are made on the same image, each on one side. The combinations are: - The width of the susbstituted canine and its height. - The width of the substituted canine and its color. - The height of the substituted canine and its color. So in total, 6 series of 5 images will be observed giving a total of 30 images. Study participants are divided into 3 categories of observers: orthodontists, dentists, and laypersons. The data are analyzed to: - Output defect perceptibility thresholds for the 3 groups. - Determine which defect is more perceptible in the combination series.
