Photo bioreactor design for sustainable production of biodiesel from microalgae grown in brine

Description :

Our project aims to make the production of biodiesel from Lebanese strains of microalgae efficient from cost perspective by designing low cost scalable reactor inspired by the structure of tree leaves, using the brine from waste water treatment as a growth medium, and solar panels to collect solar radiation from the sunlight, converting it into usable electricity to power multi LED light sources to reduce the energy costs. We will also develop a low cost biomass harvesting technology based on electrocoagulation and electro flotation also solar powered. On the other hand, we will study the feasibility of integrating anaerobic co-digestion of the waste water sludge and the oil biomass extract to generate methane in order to provide the required energy to fully run the system.
