Crystel is a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Pharmacy of USJ. She earned a degree in Doctor of Pharmacy and a Master degree in Pharmaceutical and Biological Sciences, specializing in pathogens and antimicrobials. During her Master's degree, Crystel worked at the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory on the PEARL project (Pneumonia Etiology Among Refugees and the Lebanese Population), a multicenter prospective case-control study on community-acquired pneumonia among Syrian refugees in Lebanon, initiated and coordinated by the Mérieux Foundation. After her Master's degree, Crystel enrolled in a joint PhD program with the American University of Beirut where she works with patients admitted for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. She studies changes in the intestinal microbiota and how these could affect transplant outcomes. Crystel has received numerous scholarships and grants and was recognized in 2020 as a young talent by l'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science. In 2024, Crystel also specialized in clinical research through the Global Clinical Scholar Research Training Program at Harvard Medical School. Crystel works on different research projects regarding the microbiome and biomarker development. In addition to her devotion to research, Crystel is an active social worker who believes in the power of volunteerism and the role of youth in contributing to society.
