Democracy and Elections

This course aims to introduce students to elections as an integral part of democracy. It includes in-depth knowledge about the history of elections as a democratic tool for the formation of governing authorities for a certain period of time, in a certain political context. It will also tackle electoral systems, differences between various systems used, and the effects of these systems on democracy and representation. The course will explain the most common forms of electoral malpractices in system designs. In addition, the course will also present the electoral management integrity standards and malpractices and their impact on electoral behaviour, election democracy and representation.
