Research Methods in Practice 8: Systematic reviews, single case design and qualitative designs

This teaching unit is designed specifically for Master's students in Speech and Language Therapy (Year 5), with the aim of providing an in-depth understanding of research methodologies that are particularly relevant and applicable to the field of SLT and communication disorders. The unit will focus on three main methodological pillars: 1.Single-Case Experimental Designs (SCEDs) – frequently used in SLT research due to the highly individualized nature of communication disorders and therapeutic interventions. 2.Systematic Reviews – essential for synthesizing existing evidence and informing evidence-based practice within SLT. 3.Qualitative Research Methods – crucial for exploring the lived experiences of individuals with communication disabilities, their families, and the SLT professionals who work with them.
