SIO Starts a New Year Turned Toward the Future, on the Threshold of Its 50th Anniversary.

flash-usj

The Student Information and Orientation Office (SIO) of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) held, on September 15, 2026, its annual meeting presenting the 2026-2027 academic year’s activities, in the presence of the Rector, the Vice-Rectors, the Deans, the Directors, and the representatives of various USJ institutions.

This meeting enabled participants to review the main initiatives taken during the 2025-2026 academic year, and the presentation of the dates, projects, and new developments for the 2026-2027 academic year: enrollment, welcoming activities, information, orientation and reorientation, school outreach retention, events and activities, testimonials, travels, social media, communication campaigns, professional training and other initiatives.

It was also an occasion to thank USJ's various institutions for their valuable collaboration and commitment, and to jointly launch the many initiatives that will shape the year ahead.

Half a Century of Institutional Collaboration

One of the highlights of the meeting was the announcement of the SIO's 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated starting January 2027, with the unveiling of a specially designed logo and the slogan: "Future is this Way".

Founded in 1977 at the initiative of the late Fr. René Chamussy, the SIO was conceived as a genuine access point and gateway to the University, designed to guide future students in their academic and career choices.

Fifty years later, the SIO continues this mission with the same ambition: informing, supporting, and guiding young people as they shape their futures.

A New Responsibility for USJ

The meeting was also marked by the announcement of USJ's election to manage the Association of Orientation for Private Universities in Lebanon, starting in June 2027, for a two-year term.

This responsibility, which will succeed the coordination currently held by BAU, will allow USJ to strengthen its role in the field of university orientation and to further foster dialogue, cooperation, and the sharing of expertise among universities and other stakeholders in the education sector.

The SIO warmly thanks USJ's various institutions for their collaboration, trust, and support, and looks forward to continuing, together with them, a 2026-2027 academic year rich in projects, meetings, and new initiatives, in service of our University and its future students.

SIO in the United Arab Emirates

Approaching its 50th anniversary, the Student Information and Orientation Office (SIO) of Saint Joseph University of Beirut begins a new year marked by a focus on the future, openness, and international outreach.

With this in mind, the SIO continues to extend its reach beyond Lebanon's borders, going out to meet young people and families of the Lebanese community in the United Arab Emirates. This presence in Dubai and Abu Dhabi reflects USJ's commitment to strengthening its ties with schools, students and their parents, while also presenting its programs, values, and prospects.

As part of this mission, the SIO will notably be present at Lycée Français International de l'AFLEC, Lycée Libanais Francophone Privé – Meydan (LLFPM), Lycée Français International Georges Pompidou, Lycée Français Théodore Monod – Abu Dhabi, and The SABIS® International School – Yas Island, through meetings and exchanges with students and members of the educational community.

Beyond these meetings, this initiative is part of a broader vision: that of a USJ that continues to strengthen its international outreach while remaining close to its young people, wherever they may be.

The National Academy of Medicine in France has awarded the Philippe Kfouri prize to Professor Marianne Abi Fadel, Director of ETLAM, and honorary dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), granting her the title of Laureate of the National Academy of Medicine.

This distinction was awarded to her for her research conducted in France and in Lebanon on lipid disorders and their cardiovascular complications. Her works, carried out at INSERM at the Necker Hospital and at the Faculty of Pharmacy of USJ, led to discover, in 2003, the role of the PCSK9 gene in familial hypercholesterolemia. This discovery facilitated new and very effective treatments to lower blood cholesterol and reduce cardiovascular diseases. Her research has continued since then through genetic studies of lipid disorders in Lebanon and France, carried out through collaborations between the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Therapies, which she directs at USJ, and INSERM at Necker Hospital, Bichat Hospital, and currently UMRS 1166 ICAN at Sorbonne University.

This prize was awarded to her on December 16, 2025, in Paris, during a ceremony at the prestigious National Academy of Medicine.

Moreover, the Professor Marianne Abi Fadel was designated patron of the 2025-2026 cohort of the InnoCare master’s program of the University of Nantes, a Master in Innovation for Cardiovascular, Metabolic, and Respiratory Diseases. As part of this role, she was a guest at the InnoCARE Summer School, held on July 2 and 3, 2026, at the Thorax Institute of the University of Nantes.
