The Master in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a professional program to prepare experts capable of developing intelligent programs and systems to be implemented in different industries for the betterment of mankind. Our graduates have expertise in a wide range of AI-related fields such as supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL), Reinforcement Learning, Big Data Analysis and Modeling, Data Mining, Statistics, as well as the development of parallel and distributed AI-based software. It is a professional master’s program that meets the needs of the job market but also provides the theoretical basis that enables students to pursue doctoral studies in this field. Furthermore, selected students in their first year (M1) have the unique opportunity to continue their second year (M2) studies at Paris-Saclay University as part of a joint degree program.

Professor Richard Maroun appointed Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of USJ

After having been appointed Vice-Rector for Research at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut in 2023, the Professor Richard Maroun has been appointed Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (VRAA) effective August 1st, 2026.

Prof. Maroun was Dean of the Faculty of Science from September 1st, 2015, to the end of October 2023. He is a Professor of biochemistry and virology and Director of the Laboratory for the Characterization of Bioactive Molecules. He pursued his graduate studies at Université Paris Diderot, the Institut Pasteur in Paris, and the Institut Gustave Roussy in Villejuif and went on to obtain his Habilitation to Direct Research (HDR) in 2004. He additionally serves as a sworn expert in microbiology and epidemiology for the courts, and has completed advanced coursework in innovation management at Graz University of Technology in Austria. Furthermore, he is certified as an HACCP expert by the Campden BRI Institute in the United Kingdom. His main research interests lie in the valorization of industrial by-products and waste, as well as the research into antiviral molecules work, reflected in more than 200 scientific contributions, including 139 published articles, 52 participations in international conferences, and 10 patents.

What if, before choosing a career, you get to experience it?

Choosing one's higher education path is a defining step. For a young student, it's not just about choosing a field of study or a profession, but also about better understanding who they are, what interests them, what motivates them, and in what environment they will be able to give the best of themselves.

For that reason, the Student Information and Orientation Office (SIO) organized, over the summer, orientation internships targeting secondary school students from schools across Lebanon.

Students were selected based on their academic excellence, enabling these motivated and engaged participants to live the university experience hands-on at the heart of USJ and other companies.

However, beyond academic results, this initiative holds an essential message: orientation is not simply about choosing a career, it is about finding the one that best matches one's personality, aspirations, and talents.

Students were able to explore their field of interest up close, take part in activities and workshops tailored to their chosen program, meet professionals and members of USJ's various institutions, and experience realistic situations related to their future path.

This immersion enabled the students to move from idea to experience: to see, try, question, experiment and, above all, to envision themselves in that future.

At the end of each internship, each student received a certificate of participation outlining the skills acquired and what they gained from the experience.

Chris Bsaibes Takes the Lead of Firestone Faculty of Engineering and Architecture School of Mediterranean Agricultural Engineering (ESIAM) usj.edu.lb/esiam esiam@usj.edu.lb +961 (8) 543 121

Chris Bsaibes, an agricultural engineer, has been appointed director of the largest rubber plantation in the world, at the American Firestone plantation located in Liberia, a company for which he had already served as supplier and agricultural consultant for more than three years. Firestone is part of the global Bridgestone group.

Holder of a Bachelor of Engineering in Agricultural Engineering from the School of Mediterranean Agricultural Engineering (ESIAM) at USJ, obtained in 2009, Chris went on to earn a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the Lebanese American University (LAU) in 2012.

His career path is marked by its remarkable pace and consistency. Immediately after completing his studies, he joined the Debbane Frères group in Lebanon, where he worked for 12 years, rising to the position of Regional Development Manager. In 2022, he chose to relocate to Liberia and founded his own company, Liberia Development and Agriculture (LIDA), recognized today as a pioneering agricultural enterprise, which he later passed on to his father. This trajectory has established him as a reference in the agricultural field and a leading figure in professional circles.

Through LIDA, he swiftly established himself in Liberia's agricultural landscape, while simultaneously holding the positions of National Rubber Acquisitions Director and Director of Agricultural Advisory Services and Development. Leading numerous projects that incorporate some of the sector's most advanced technologies, as well as agro-supplier distribution networks and partnerships with the Ministry of Agriculture, he drew the attention of Firestone, which recruited him.

In his current role, he oversees more than 2,000 employees and manages an integrated system of heavy machinery and agricultural equipment, ranging from tractors to production lines. He is also responsible for supply chain development and rubber acquisition across different regions of a country spanning more than 100,000 km², thereby contributing to the company's strategic positioning.
