Women, Islamism, Globalization and the Informal Sector in Iran

Roksana Bahramitash is research director at the Chair of Islam, Pluralism and Globalization at Department of theology at University of Montreal. Her research interests are, Women’s Employment/unemployment, poverty and globalization, She received the  Eileen D. Ross award for her project on female poverty, globalization, Islamization and women’s employment. She has produced a documentary on Afghan women, “Beyond the Burqa.”

Her publications include: Liberation from Liberalization: Gender and Globalization in Southeast Asia, London:(2005); “Myths and Realities of the Impact of Political Islam on Women: Female Employment in Iran and Indonesia;” “Globalization, Islamization and Women’s Employment in Indonesia;” Gods, Guns, and Globalization: Religious Radicalism and International Political Economy.
