Economics & migration / An Economic Take on the Refugee Crisis

This course will provide the audience with the fundamentals of economic literacy and how they may affect migration. Students will explore major economic issues such as monopolistic power, inflation and recession, government spending and taxation, the banking system and international trade. This course provides an initial evaluation of the effects of significant inflows of a refugees on a country’s or a region’s economic system, with an emphasis on the EU experience. It provides a preliminary snapshot, illustrating how much will depend on the volume, character, and make-up of the flows, along with the ability of host nations to integrate refugees in need of protection.
