3D assessment of the amount of hard and soft tissue in the maxillary tuberosity: a radiological and human study

Description :

Maxillary tuberosities have been widely used as a source of soft tissue and autogenous bone in oral surgery procedures. The tuberosity graft may represent a feasible and low-cost solution for minimizing soft and hard tissue collapse and may also present a suitable donor site for bone and soft tissue augmentations. (1) (7) However, no previous studies have actually evaluated the volume of bone and soft tissue graft of this anatomical region. This study develops a novel approach for evaluating the amount of bone and soft tissue in the tuberosity region as a donor site before undergoing an oral bone and soft tissue grafting procedure, which prevents opening several intra-oral sites and minimizes the patient’s morbidity. To evaluate the bone volume, a 3D radiographic evaluation (CBCT) will be realized for patients undergoing an interventional surgery in the maxillary region . After the radiographic evaluation , an intraoral optic scanner ( Trios ) will be realized for the patients in order to assess the amount of soft tissue available in the tuberosity. Both images will be evaluated using the BlueSky software to determine the amount of bone and soft tissue in the tuberosity that could be provided during the grafting procedure.
