LISA: Long-range IoT for Smart Agriculture

The Internet of Things (IoT) is playing an increasingly important role in providing additional control and better decision making in all human related activities. Agriculture is one of such activities that builds on IoT to increase its efficiency and reach the smart agriculture paradigm. This project proposes to deploy the first IoT LPWAN (Low-Power Wide Area Network) pilot network using LoRa radio technology in an agricultural environment. Featuring a simple network architecture, low power consumption, and wide coverage, this network is pertinently adapted to the context of smart agriculture. The project proposes innovative contributions to adapt LoRa to the agricultural environment, design low-power communicating sensors for agriculture, and offer services for real-time or on-demand remote collection of agricultural data. In particular, an experimental deployment is planned in Bekaa where a LoRa network will be installed to automatically measure the microclimate under the vines and send data for scientific analysis by agronomists.
