Nayla Doughane graduated from Saint Joseph's University of Beirut with a Master's degree and a post-graduate diploma in Education with a specialization in Maternal Health Services. She served as the Director of the Midwifery School at Saint Joseph's University from 1993 to 2007. She has developed and implemented the Master program of Advanced Practice in Obstetrics as well as numerous continuing education diplomas to upgrade the competencies and strengthen the leadership of midwives in delivering quality maternal and neonatal health services. Over nearly 20 years, she played a leadership role and deployed considerable efforts along with a team of midwives and led numerous lobbying activities to promote midwifery and establish the Lebanese Order of Midwives. Between 2014 and 2018, she took on a leading role as the Founding President of the Lebanese Order of Midwives and led numerous activities across the Lebanese regions to promote midwifery and enhance the capacities of midwives in providing safe, effective and quality maternal and neonatal health services. She has designed and implemented a national balanced counseling strategy in family planning in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and UNFPA office in Lebanon. She is also a senior lecturer and researcher at the Midwifery School and has been awarded the title of Honorary Director of this School. Furthermore, she has extensive experience in providing family planning services and training healthcare providers in this field, as well as in neonatal resuscitation programs., breastfeeding, sexual and reproductive health. She is a temporary consultant for many international organizations (the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Lebanon office, UNFPA-Libya office) and national one (e.g., ABAAD). She is currently a certified expert in the clinical management of rape and domestic violence. She is conducting many training sessions such as training of trainers for healthcare providers initiated by UNFPA and the Ministry of Public Health, as well as awareness-raising sessions on gender-based violence, the clinical management of survivors of rape, and intimate partner violence. Since 2022, she is a training coach for the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research (GFMER), in collaboration with the World Health Organization Geneva office and EMRO. She contributes to many online training programs and courses in adolescent sexual and reproductive health, and child and adolescent health in humanitarian settings. She has received several certificates of recognition for her role as a GFMER coach.
