Maher Abboud, born in 1970, is a full professor of chemistry at the Faculty of Science at Saint Joseph University (USJ) in Lebanon. He obtained his engineering diploma in Physical and Chemical Materials in 1994 and his PhD in Material Chemistry in 1998 from the University of Bordeaux I, France, with a thesis focused on the design of hybrid materials based on polymers encapsulated by minerals for medical applications. In 2015, he received his Habilitation to Lead Research (HDR) from the University of Bretagne Occidentale. Abboud has held several significant roles, including head of the Chemistry Department at USJ from 2000 to 2006, director of the CAR Analysis and Research Center from 2006 to 2010, director of the Environment, Genomics, and Proteomics (EGP) Research Unit from 2016 to 2023, and since 2023, dean of the Faculty of Science at USJ. His research interests include developing functional hybrid materials, synthesizing polymer and mineral-based nanoparticles, creating sensors using magnetic nano-objects, and engineering composite materials with high chemical and mechanical resistance. His work has applications in environmental monitoring, air quality, and health fields.
