Joseph Kattan is the Head of the Hematology-Oncology Department and Clinical Research Coordinator at Saint Joseph University (USJ) in Beirut, Lebanon, since 2022. He previously served as the Head of the Hematology-Oncology Division at Saint Joseph Hospital in Beirut from 1994 to 2014, and subsequently as the Head of the Hematology-Oncology Department at Hôtel-Dieu de France University Hospital in Beirut from 2014 to 2022. Additionally, he was the Director of the Continuing Medical Education Office at the Faculty of Medicine at USJ from 2015 to 2022. A graduate of medicine in 1986, he completed a specialization in Medical Oncology in 1993 and was appointed Professor of Hematology-Oncology at USJ in 1994. In 1988, he began five years of advanced training at the Institut Gustave-Roussy in Villejuif, France. His main areas of expertise include urogenital, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and gynecological tumors, as well as intensified therapy and supportive care. He earned degrees in Oncology (1989), Immunology (1991), and Hematology (1993) from Paris-Sud University. He is responsible for numerous courses and programs in hematology-oncology at USJ and serves as the principal investigator for multiple regional and international clinical trials. He is the founder of the educational tool Learning Through Debate and the FRON (Regional Oncology Research Competition). He is a member or former member of editorial boards for journals such as Bulletin du Cancer, Lebanese Medical Journal, Cancer Letter, and the International Journal of Hematology and Oncology. He has authored over 350 publications in international journals on topics including pharmacology, drug development, urogenital and gastrointestinal oncology, and supportive care. He is affiliated with numerous international and regional scientific societies, including ASCO, ESMO, MASCC, SFC, EHA, SIOG, SLC, and LSMO, and is a founding member of the Cancer Research Group (CRG) Collaborative Group, where he currently serves as Secretary General.
