Dr. Yolla Ghorra Chamoun is a
distinguished Lebanese university teacher, researcher, and agricultural expert,
born on June 24, 1967. She holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy from AgroParis-Tech,
obtained in 2005. Her extensive academic background includes a Master's in
Horticulture from CIHEAM and a Diploma in Agricultural Engineering from
ESIAM-USJ, along with numerous diplomas in Smart and Precision Agriculture.
With a career spanning over three
decades, Dr. Ghorra Chamoun has made significant contributions to the
agricultural sector through her various roles in institutions. She served as an
advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and head of the Plant Production Service
at the Ministry of Agriculture (1996-2002), and as a World Bank project
coordinator. She was also the director of ESIAM (2002-2009) and continues to
work there as an associate professor. Notably, she reopened the Ecole
Supérieure d'Ingénieurs d’Agroalimentaire (ESIA) in 2004 at USJ.
Her expertise encompasses
viticulture, precision agriculture, and rural development, with numerous
publications and international conference participations highlighting her
contributions to modernizing agricultural practices. Her research projects
focus on smart and precision viticulture, characterization of viticultural
terroirs, modernization of agricultural practices, farmer typology, and
post-harvest fruit technologies.
In addition to her academic and
professional achievements, Dr. Ghorra Chamoun is actively involved in various
professional bodies, including ITER VITIS, ISSH, and Oeno-Viti International.
Her practical experience includes leading and consulting on projects funded by
prominent organizations such as the EU, UNDP, FAO, and World Bank. She has
played a pivotal role in enhancing agricultural education and practices in
Lebanon through her expertise and training of over 1,000 farmers in workshops,
field visits, and personal coaching in projects by USAID, UNDP, OML, and the
International Red Cross.
Dr. Ghorra Chamoun's enduring
commitment to the advancement of agriculture, coupled with her dedication to
education and community service, has left an indelible mark on the agricultural
landscape of Lebanon. Her work continues to inspire and drive innovation within
the field.
