Nicolas Louka is a Professor of Industrial Process Engineering, director of Center for Analysis and Research-Faculty of Sciences-Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), responsible of technology transfer university-industry, director of Technology and Valorization of Agro-resources research unit, and expert in design and construction of industrial equipment. He founded and directed the Doctoral School of Sciences, Engineering, and Technology at USJ for seven years. He earned his PhD in Industrial Process Engineering from the University of Technology of Compiègne, Sorbonne universities, France, where he spent two decades working in both the industrial sector and academia. His teaching primarily focuses on Food Process Engineering for graduate students in France and Lebanon. Over 35 years, he studied the Intensification of Vaporization by Decompression to Vacuum, applications in food and para-pharmaceutical industries. His research portfolio spans various domains, including sterilization of solid products, extraction of bioactive compounds, dehydration and texturizing of biological materials, fermentation, nuts defatting, and mycotoxins elimination from solid and liquid foods. Additionally, he is currently involved in implementing a new waste treatment process. Throughout his career, Professor Louka has supervised over 30 PhDs, often in collaboration with universities in France and Italy, and has delivered numerous international lectures. He boasts an extensive publication record with over 150 publications and 25 patents. Furthermore, he has overseen the conception, design, and implementation of a dozen industrial projects across Europe, Africa, and Lebanon, solidifying his reputation as an expert in the field.
