“To what extent how do communication strategies employed by conversation partners influence the pragmatic processing abilities of individuals with aphasia and dementia in Arabic and English conversations?” my project will address two objectives: 1. Identify and describe effective communication strategies employed by individuals with communication disabilities and their conversation partners within the Lebanese and Irish population. This objective will involve analyzing conversational interactions to determine which strategies yield ‘successful utterance interpretation’ in the conversational context, for whom these strategies are most effective, and the influence of specific clinical, demographic and conversational contexts. 2. Develop a comprehensive training package for Arabic-speaking individuals with communication difficulties that is designed to be adaptable across diverse socio-cultural contexts. This objective emphasizes the creation of a flexible framework, outlining key components to ensure its applicability in a wide range of real-world settings. The findings from this research will inform the development of the training package, ensuring that it is tailored to the specific needs and challenges of Arabic-speaking individuals with communication difficulties.
