Message from the Director
L'institut
Étudiants
Founded in 1988, IESAV will soon celebrate its thirty-fifth anniversary. Over the years, the Institute has graduated more than 700 professionals, now active in Lebanon, across the Arab world, and internationally.
Despite the many challenges of the present time, IESAV continues to look to the future: open to the job market, open to the world, and open to research.
Open to the job market
At IESAV, the pedagogical team works continuously to connect students with professionals in the field. The aim is not only to prepare them for the careers of tomorrow, but also to help them gain experience and build professional relationships. Strengthening ties with alumni is a key part of this approach, as they play an essential role in guiding and inspiring future generations.
Open to the world: joint supervision, continuous exchange of students and instructors, joint degree programs
In a constantly changing world marked by uncertainty, ongoing exchanges between academic institutions remain reassuring, necessary, and enriching constants. These exchanges stem from a desire to place IESAV and its students within a broader educational framework and to expose them to academic and professional environments around the world, beyond predefined disciplines and career paths.
Over the years, IESAV has developed the tools needed to enable students to explore their education and future professions. Through the University’s international agreements, students benefit from continuous exchange opportunities, while close collaborations with film schools around the world keep both students and instructors in constant dialogue with the international scene.
Open to research
Twice a year, the IESAV publishes Regards – revue des arts du spectacle, a peer-reviewed academic journal and the first of its kind in the Arab world dedicated to artistic practices in the region. IESAV is also involved in the Laboratory of littératures et arts (LLA), whose research work encourages ongoing reflection on the place of the arts in today’s societies, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa.
Through Regards and the Laboratory, IESAV aims to become a space for critical reflection on artistic practices in the Middle East and North Africa, their future, and their impact on contemporary and future societies. In the same spirit, IESAV offers its doctoral candidates a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and reflection to further refine their research.
At the heart of IESAV are its students – past, present, and future. The Institute’s goal is to provide them, both within IESAV and beyond, with all the resources they need to bring their projects to life, fulfill their ambitions, and find their place in the audiovisual professions and in the world.
Fully aware of its responsibility toward its students, IESAV strives to create an environment where creativity can flourish with confidence and peace of mind, even in a world shaped by new and complex challenges.
We are committed to doing everything we can to fulfill our mission.
